Parts of England have been flooded due to heavy rainfall. In the Greater Manchester area, roads and homes are submerged after two days of rain equivalent to a month’s worth.
Rescue workers and firefighters have been deployed to assist with evacuating residents at risk. A council member stated that Manchester is doing everything possible to help people, and water levels seem to be receding.
The rain caused a rapid increase in water levels. A Manchester resident told the BBC that she was in the city on New Year’s Eve, and when she returned to Stockport at 3:00 a.m., she “had to wade through knee-deep water.” Upon waking, her entire parking area and the first floor of the apartment complex were flooded.
“I can’t get in or out until the fire brigade arrives,” she said. “No one has running water or electricity.” Meteorologists predict more flooding is expected.
“It will get worse before it gets better.”
