One of Fivoor’s secure clinics in Den Dolder has been closed immediately due to structural deficiencies. Thirty-two patients are being relocated to other facilities.
A structural inspection revealed “several material deficiencies,” according to a statement from Fivoor. A spokesperson did not specify the issues with the building.
The Wier+ clinic houses patients with mild intellectual disabilities requiring intensive care and those involved with the justice system. Earlier this year, a patient from the now-closed clinic fatally stabbed a 76-year-old resident of Den Dolder.
Over the weekend, a patient under conditional TBS treatment escaped but was apprehended on Saturday night. Concerns about the psychiatric clinic have existed for some time.
Michael P., who raped and murdered Anne Faber in 2017, resided here. Mayor Langenacker of Zeist is in discussions with the Ministry of Justice and Security about a new location for the facility.
The clinic aims to move out of Den Dolder, but finding a suitable alternative has been challenging. “This is truly a bizarre coincidence,” a Fivoor spokesperson told RTV Utrecht.
Staff are currently focused on the relocation process. “However, it is expected that all patients will soon find a suitable environment to continue their treatment,” Fivoor stated.
Patients will be partly accommodated at an on-site clinic and partly at other locations in the Netherlands, according to the regional broadcaster.
