Fishing boat accident off South Korea claims three lives

Off the coast of South Korea, a fishing boat collided with rocks, resulting in the deaths of three crew members, as reported by Yonhap News Agency citing local authorities. The vessel ran aground near Gageodo, an island southwest of South Korea.

The coast guard rescued 19 of the 22 people on board after they jumped into the sea fearing the boat might capsize. None of the survivors are in critical condition.

It remains unclear whether the boat has sunk or is still stranded on the rocks, and the exact cause of the three fatalities is unknown. An investigation into the incident is underway.

Initially, the coast guard believed there were 21 people on board, but later discovered there was an additional person, possibly due to incomplete crew registration. The coast guard stated that the captain of the fishing boat might be detained on suspicion of negligence.
