Fireworks banned in The Hague district after fatal explosions

In the Tarwekamp neighborhood of The Hague, a fireworks ban will be enforced during the upcoming New Year’s celebrations. This decision was made by the municipality at the request of several residents.

A week ago, multiple explosions occurred in an apartment building on Tarwekamp, resulting in six fatalities. According to Omroep West, The Hague’s councilor Robert Barker stated, “People need time to process the events,” highlighting the impact on the entire neighborhood.

The ban aims to prevent fireworks-related disturbances and provide the area with peace. The cause of last week’s explosions remains unclear, but police suspect foul play.

Four suspects have been arrested on charges of arson and causing an explosion. A private meeting for the victims will be held this afternoon at a nearby church, with Mayor Van Zanen attending.

Some residents whose apartments were destroyed have found alternative housing.
