Firework injuries slightly decrease, but concerns remain

Around the turn of the year, slightly fewer people were recorded with firework injuries compared to last year. This year, 1,162 individuals were treated at GP clinics and emergency rooms, compared to 1,212 the previous year.

However, a higher proportion of children needed emergency care, with 37% of those requiring medical attention under 16 years old, up from 31% last year. These figures come from the annual firework report by safety center VeiligheidNL.

While the total number of emergency room victims remained the same, fewer were seen by GPs compared to last year. Almost a third of the victims suffered eye injuries, and over a third were treated for burns, with 6% also experiencing hearing damage.
