FC Utrecht is just two victories away from securing a spot in the cup final. Coach Ron Jans expressed his anticipation for the upcoming quarter-final against Heracles Almelo, emphasizing the importance of his players feeling the same excitement as the final approaches.
Recently, FC Utrecht drew 1-1 with Heracles, and defender Mike van der Hoorn noted a lack of conviction in their performance. Should the upcoming match end in a draw, extra time and potentially penalties will follow.
The team has been practicing penalties to prepare. Goalkeeper Michael Brouwer’s participation in the match remains undecided, and Jans hinted at starting Sébastien Haller.
Van der Hoorn, who missed the last league match due to suspension, highlighted the importance of a strong second half. If FC Utrecht wins the cup, they qualify for the Europa League group stage, while a third-place finish in the league would secure a spot in the Champions League qualifiers.
Van der Hoorn prefers the latter scenario but acknowledges the prestige of winning a cup. Jans, who previously won the cup in 2014, emphasizes the growing “cup fever” within the team as they edge closer to the final.
