The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit was called in tonight after the Willem II vs. NEC football match in Tilburg to dismantle fireworks found in buried pipes.
The fireworks were discovered on a vacant lot opposite the Koning Willem II Stadium. Alert residents noticed suspicious individuals placing pipes into the ground and alerted the police.
“It appeared serious enough to involve the EOD, who took it away and detonated it safely,” stated a police spokesperson. Authorities are investigating those responsible for placing the illegal fireworks.
During the match, Willem II supporters halted play for several minutes by setting off fireworks.
