Residents described a large explosion that partially collapsed an apartment building in The Hague this morning as feeling like a rocket or attack. The cause of the explosion is still unknown, and the police report a car was seen speeding away from the Tarwekamp area immediately afterward.
Witnesses are encouraged to come forward, and the police seek any available camera footage. The affected building consists of five duplex apartments above businesses, and forty homes have been evacuated.
Emergency services are searching the site, but efforts are hampered by smoldering debris and collapse risks. Four people have been hospitalized, but the total number of victims remains unclear.
The fire department has provided a helpline for concerned relatives.
