“A blast is truly a curse. It has an enormous impact,” said Mayor Ellen van Selm.
She attended a meeting with police in Purmerend for residents of the neighborhood affected by an explosion over the weekend. The explosion caused a fire that spread to other houses.
One resident, seriously injured, is still hospitalized. According to the police, it was intentional.
“Heavy fireworks with an accelerant were used. You can assume it was deliberate,” stated Jan Willem Mulder, police team leader in Purmerend.
