Exhibition Highlights Lesser-Known WWII Deportation Sites

Prisoners from Camp Amersfoort were transported to at least 177 different locations during the German occupation, according to research by the National Monument Kamp Amersfoort. This investigation traced the destinations of over 30,000 individuals during World War II.

In light of 80 years of freedom, an exhibition now highlights four of these destinations: Zwolle, Mauthausen in Austria, Neuengamme near Hamburg, and Natzweiler in Alsace. Natzweiler, located over 50 kilometers southwest of Strasbourg, was the only concentration camp set up by the Nazis on present-day French territory.

Resistance fighter Dirk de Loos was among those deported there.
