Statements made by Elon Musk regarding non-American political matters are causing growing irritation and concern among European leaders. French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz responded today to remarks by the tech billionaire and advisor to incoming President Trump.
Scholz dismissed Musk’s influence, stating that Germany’s 84 million people can’t be swayed by misleading statements on Twitter. This isn’t Musk’s first foray into European politics.
He recently posted on his X-profile, suggesting U.S. intervention in the UK government, gathering mixed reactions. Musk’s comments follow accusations against UK Prime Minister Starmer for his alleged past inaction as Director of Public Prosecutions.
Starmer countered by condemning the spread of falsehoods. Later, Musk accused Starmer of complicity in crimes.
President Macron criticized Musk’s potential interference in elections, highlighting the importance of strong alliances. Norway’s Prime Minister Støre also expressed concern about Musk’s involvement in other countries’ domestic affairs.
Musk, known for leading Tesla and SpaceX, acquired Twitter in 2023, increasing the platform’s attention to extreme views. Recently, Musk pledged support for Trump, gaining a significant role as the U.S. ‘Minister of Government Efficiency.’
