Police apprehended an escaped patient from the Fivoor psychiatric clinic in Den Dolder following a large-scale search. RTV Utrecht reports that the 44-year-old man was on supervised leave and escaped upon returning to the clinic around midnight.
The search involved multiple police cars and a helicopter, and a description was shared on X, advising the public not to approach the man but to call emergency services. The police acted extensively due to the patient’s history.
At 01:40, the man was detained with the aid of a police dog following a witness tip. He resisted arrest and was taken to the station.
The police have not disclosed further details and referred inquiries to Fivoor, which declined to comment. This incident occurred after a 76-year-old woman was fatally stabbed by a clinic patient on leave earlier this month, leading to community meetings and additional local support.
In 2017, the clinic was involved in controversy when Anne Faber was killed by Michael P., another patient.
