Five energy-efficient homes on Texel are set for demolition after less than five years due to ongoing technical issues. Housing association Woontij has found no other solution as the ‘fishermen’s houses’ have shown significant defects from the start.
A resident, interviewed by NH Nieuws, reported water leaks and drafts since moving in. Built in 2020, these social housing units faced complaints about water damage and heat loss.
The problem was identified as heat leakage from the steel structures, causing thermal bridges. The builder went bankrupt during construction, leaving costs unrecoverable.
Four homes are already vacated, with residents relocating to a new project in Den Burg by February.
