A fire at a nursing home near Belgrade, Serbia, resulted in eight fatalities. The blaze broke out around 3:30 AM, requiring the efforts of dozens of firefighters and eleven fire engines.
Seven individuals were hospitalized, including a woman in critical condition with burns and smoke inhalation. Two men also inhaled hazardous substances.
Thirteen people were evacuated and given emergency accommodation, according to Serbian public broadcaster RTS. Although thirty people were reportedly present in the building, police have yet to issue an official statement.
Prime Minister Vucevic expressed his condolences to the families and wished for the recovery of the injured. The Ministry of Internal Affairs informed RTS that arson is suspected, potentially caused by a resident of the nursing home.
The ministry also confirmed that the facility held all necessary permits and met fire safety regulations.
