An Ebola outbreak in Uganda has resulted in the death of a nurse, as confirmed by the Ugandan Ministry of Health. The 32-year-old man worked at a hospital in the capital, Kampala.
After developing fever-like symptoms, laboratory tests confirmed he had Ebola. An autopsy report verified the cause of death.
Authorities have conducted contact tracing and taken measures to prevent further spread in the densely populated city. Forty-four contacts, including 30 healthcare workers and patients from the hospital where he was employed, have been notified and are being vaccinated.
This is the first Ebola-related death in Uganda since the previous outbreak ended in early 2023, during which 55 people died. Symptoms of Ebola include vomiting, diarrhea, and potential organ failure.
