Dutch singer and presenter Manuëla Kemp has passed away at the age of 61, as confirmed by her husband to news agency ANP. Kemp had been in a coma for several weeks following a severe scooter accident in Portugal.
She gained fame through the television shows “Maan bij Nacht” and “De Vrienden van Amstel,” where she also performed. Kemp was known for her husky, sensual voice.
Throughout her career, she was part of various bands and participated in the 2004 National Song Contest. Kemp was born on February 13, 1963, in Kwadijk and had a challenging upbringing, facing societal scrutiny due to her parents’ divorce.
Her early life was marked by a strict household environment led by her classical singer mother. Kemp began exploring pop music in her teenage years, eventually pursuing a career in show business.
Her career spanned television, radio, and live music performances. In April 2022, Kemp retired from radio due to health issues.
She was previously in a well-publicized relationship with presenter Jeroen Pauw and married music journalist Tjerk Lammers in 2009. Kemp suffered a serious accident in Portugal in December of last year, which left her in a coma.
Her condition deteriorated, leading to her passing.
