Dutch musician and author Peter Schaap passes away at 78

The Dutch musician and writer Peter Schaap passed away on Friday at the age of 78. Schaap gained national fame with his 1975 hit “Adem mijn adem,” which remained in the Top 2000 for six years.

According to RTV Noord, he had been ill for some time. Schaap started his professional music career in 1974 and quickly achieved Top 40 hits with songs like “Adem mijn adem” and “Vliegen als een vogel.” In 1976, he received the Silver Harp award for emerging talent.

Schaap released four albums and a compilation CD, and appeared on shows such as TopPop, the Netherlands’ first major pop music show. Later in his career, Schaap shifted towards writing children’s books, science fiction, and fantasy.

He authored works including “De vallei van de geesten,” “De schrijvenaar van Thyll,” and “Vlammenzee.” In 1988, he won the Euro-award for “De schrijvenaar van Thyll” at the Eurocon science fiction convention in Budapest.
