An 80-year-old man from Breda, according to the Public Prosecution Service, is accused of urging a woman from Bodegraven to end her life using the lethal suicide powder ‘X’. The court is demanding a fourteen-month prison sentence, with seven months suspended.
Hans D. and the 32-year-old woman were members of the Cooperative Last Will, which advocates for more self-determined end-of-life options. The woman purchased the suicide means, and D. allegedly provided instructions and encouragement via WhatsApp.
She died by suicide in November 2021, nearly three weeks after their initial contact. D. denies encouraging her to use the substance, claiming he merely shared general online information about ‘X.’ The prosecution disagrees, citing messages where D. referenced eternal rest and instructed her on actions to take on her last day.
The deceased woman’s mother is seeking €17,500 in damages. The court’s verdict is scheduled for January 24.
