Dutch man conditionally sentenced in Russia for assault

A Dutch national, Harry van der W., aged 64, has been conditionally sentenced to three years in prison in Russia for assaulting a police officer. This information was reported by the Russian state news agency TASS.

Van der W. allegedly punched the officer in the face near a metro station in Moscow. The exact circumstances remain unclear, but earlier reports by Russian media suggested that the man stumbled and kicked a traffic sign.

Following this, the police officer reportedly received a blow from Van der W. TASS stated that Van der W. was intoxicated at the time. He was detained in early October and has been in custody since.

It is unknown if Van der W. is now free to move as he pleases.
