Dutch hospital Rijnstate lends staff to regional hospitals

The Rijnstate hospital in Arnhem will start lending staff to other hospitals in the region starting today. The hospital reports having sufficient personnel and can temporarily spare some staff members.

Initially, operating room assistants, who handle the nursing aspects during surgeries, will gain experience in other hospitals for up to three months. “There are significant shortages in the region, and also across the Netherlands,” says Mirjam de Stigter, team manager of OR Surgery.

According to her, Rijnstate felt a responsibility to help address this scarcity. “We thought: what can we offer our employees, and would they be interested in exploring another hospital?

Several employees became quite enthusiastic about the idea.” So far, ten employees have signed up, De Stigter says.
