The Dutch government aims to enhance the nation’s resilience against large-scale armed conflicts and other crises such as floods, pandemics, and prolonged disruptions of vital processes. This also includes countering foreign attempts to destabilize Dutch society or inflict economic damage.
Minister Van Weel of Justice and Security, along with Minister Brekelmans of Defense, presented a comprehensive plan to address these challenges. They emphasize the importance of individual and collective preparedness, advising citizens to maintain emergency supplies at home.
The government will not fund these kits, as personal responsibility is stressed. Due to increasing international threats, especially from Russia, the security situation has worsened rapidly.
The plan includes cyber defense measures and aims to deter countries like Russia and China. By 2025, a national campaign will inform citizens on preparedness.
Minister Brekelmans highlights the importance of military readiness and economic stability in potential conflicts, while Minister Van Weel urges quick action to prepare for future shocks.
