The first noteworthy political headline this year on the NOS website was “PVV Withdraws Three Anti-Islam Bills.” These were old proposals lacking majority support. By withdrawing them, PVV leader Geert Wilders signaled his seriousness in cabinet negotiations.
In 2024, Wilders didn’t become prime minister but gained significant influence. The coalition formation after PVV’s election win in November last year extended into spring, marked by tensions.
Ultimately, an agreement was reached among the four parties. BBB secured gains in agriculture, NSC in rule of law and governance, VVD in financial stability, and PVV shaped migration policy.
