Donny M. waives appeal in Gino’s murder case

Donny M., convicted of abducting, abusing, and murdering 9-year-old Gino, has chosen not to appeal his sentence, according to his lawyers. Despite disagreements with parts of the verdict, M. accepts his 25-year prison term and compulsory psychiatric treatment, opting not to subject Gino’s family to another trial.

The court in Maastricht sentenced the 25-year-old M. in late November to a term less than the 28 years requested by the prosecution. Experts at the Pieter Baan Center diagnosed M. with multiple disorders, including a pedophilic disorder, from a young age.

Gino disappeared while playing outside in Kerkrade in 2022, and his body was found in Geleen three days later after M. confessed to the crime.
