Donald Trump Jr., the son of incoming President Trump, is visiting Greenland. Last month, Trump reiterated his interest in purchasing the island from Denmark.
It remains unclear what Trump Jr. is doing in Greenland. “No, I’m not buying Greenland.
Interestingly enough, I’m visiting privately for a day,” he stated in a podcast. The visit will be brief, lasting only a few hours, with no scheduled meetings with politicians or government officials.
Trump announced his son’s visit on Truth Social, claiming Greenlanders support the “Make America Great Again” movement and that representatives are traveling to see the island’s beauty. Trump views Greenland as a crucial investment for national security, citing its rich natural resources important for energy transition.
During his previous term (2017-2021), Trump expressed the desire to buy Greenland, which the Danish Prime Minister Frederiksen called “absurd.” Greenland’s Prime Minister Egede has stated in a New Year’s speech that the island is not for sale but is open to independence from Denmark. The Danish royal family has not commented on Trump’s interest, although a new royal coat of arms emphasizing Greenland has been introduced.
