Devastating Los Angeles Fire Causes Major Loss

“I feel like a zombie,” says Sabrina Mosenifar, 35, who has been unable to sleep since Tuesday. Her parents’ home in Pacific Palisades burned to the ground.

Her parents had planned to spend their retirement there, but the fire destroyed both their house and their dream. Neighbor Mark, whose house was spared, also experienced trauma as his children were evacuated from school just before it was engulfed in flames.

An insurance agent noted the immense damages, with Pacific Palisades potentially being the most costly fire for insurers, as homes average $3 million. State Farm recently canceled around 1600 policies, leaving homeowners to rely on a basic insurance plan for risk areas.

Increasing natural disasters due to climate change are causing more insurers to exit high-risk areas in the U.S. Sabrina managed to enter the closed-off area and found a stack of personal belongings saved by firefighters. Firefighter Richard Randolph told NOS that they salvaged items of emotional value.

While Sabrina’s parents lost 99% of their belongings, she is grateful for what was saved.
