Dense fog has caused issues in various parts of the Netherlands, affecting the eastern and southern regions where a yellow weather warning is in place until the afternoon. This morning, the fog moved over the northern provinces, preventing ships from departing Harlingen, reports Omrop Fryslân.
Rijkswaterstaat redirected several vessels from the Wadden Sea due to visibility dropping below 200 meters. Ships without radar are prohibited from sailing when visibility is less than 1000 meters.
The fog also led to accidents on land. In Kloosterhaar, Overijssel, a driver failed to see a curve and went off the road, according to RTV Oost.
The driver was unharmed, though the car sustained significant damage. Due to multiple accidents, the Afsluitdijk was temporarily closed.
Following an initial collision involving four cars, six people were injured. Subsequently, two cars collided at the Afsluitdijk’s entrance ramp; no injuries were reported.
Traffic was redirected through Flevoland, but the Afsluitdijk has since reopened. The KNMI issued a yellow warning for fog this morning nationwide, now focused on the south and east, expected until 5 PM.
