Cybercrime group uses Instagram GIFs to deceive users

Instagram comments have seen an increase in GIFs featuring women in bikinis, which experts say are linked to a cybercrime network. This network aims to deceive users and undermine news media.

NOS Stories, a youth platform, noticed these GIFs under news videos, despite the GIF commenting feature being disabled. Social media coordinator Stef Snakkers noted similar patterns on other news channels and reached out to Meta, the company behind Instagram, for clarification but received no response.

Cybersecurity experts were then consulted for further investigation.
