Lawyer Gerard Spong, representing a suspect in the Hague explosions case, reported experiencing a “kind of cyberattack” last night. He received an email threatening consequences for his legal aid and suggesting a hacker group would be involved.
Following this, he was bombarded with over 10,000 emails in a matter of minutes. Spong has informed the Public Prosecution Service about the incident.
He described feeling threatened, noting that while personal threats are not new to him, this was the first threat to his computer network. The Public Prosecution Service is taking the report seriously and is conducting further investigations.
Spong represents a 33-year-old suspect from Rotterdam, who, along with three others, is under strict restrictions. Yesterday, he visited the explosion site at Tarwekamp with other lawyers and the prosecutor.
The four detained men are accused of arson and causing an explosion that resulted in six deaths and four injuries. They are also suspected of setting a car on fire and preparing for another arson attack.
Police believe a bridal shop on the ground floor was the intended target. Three of the six victims were from the same family.
