No lectures will be held tomorrow at Eindhoven University of Technology, following a cyberattack that occurred overnight from Saturday to Sunday, which led to the shutdown of the internal network. The university reports that securing the network has not yet been completed.
Patrick Groothuis, vice chair of the university’s executive board, stated in a written declaration, “We are working systematically and with all available resources to secure TU/e’s network and cautiously bring it back online, prioritizing educational systems.” The network is essential for providing education, and currently, students and staff cannot access their emails. The perpetrator remains unknown, and while the university does not believe data has been stolen, the investigation is ongoing.
Groothuis acknowledges the inconvenience for students and staff but assures that non-network-related research can continue and that all labs and facilities are secure. PhD defenses can also proceed as planned.
