Cyberattack Delays Eindhoven University Exams by One Week

Eindhoven University of Technology anticipates that the main issues resulting from last weekend’s cyberattack will be resolved by Monday. Consequently, the entire academic calendar has been shifted by one week, delaying exams initially scheduled to start on Monday.

Following the cyberattack on Saturday night, the university took its internal network offline, significantly affecting education delivery and access to emails and online study materials for both students and faculty. The program is now postponed by seven days, with the exam week commencing on January 27.

The decision aims to provide students and faculty sufficient time for exam preparation and assignment completion, according to a university statement. The university is working to safely restore systems, with network-based student systems expected to be “sufficiently available” by Monday.

Vice President Groothuis acknowledged the difficulty of the decision to delay the program by a week, recognizing its impact on staff. The university remains cautious, acknowledging potential setbacks during the network restoration process, and advises students to monitor the website for updates.

The identity and motive behind the cyberattack remain unknown and are under external investigation.
