Crocodile Dundee’s crocodile, Burt, passes away at 90

The crocodile featured in the film Crocodile Dundee has died. Burt, estimated to be around ninety years old, was residing at Australia’s Crocosaurus Cove since 2008, which announced his peaceful passing on Instagram over the weekend, marking the end of an era.

The crocodile appeared alongside actor Paul Hogan in the iconic 1986 film, which earned Hogan a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy and remains the most successful Australian film to date. Burt became an international sensation, impacting the global image of crocodiles.

Known for his temperament and independence, Burt reminded zookeepers of the magic of these creatures. At ninety, he was massive and particularly noticeable during feeding times, drawing thousands of visitors annually to the Cove.

“While we mourn Burt’s loss, we honor his significant role in our history, preserving it for future generations,” stated the crocodile sanctuary.
