Court Sentences for Violence at Ajax vs. Maccabi Tel Aviv Match

The court has imposed prison sentences of up to six months and a community service order for the violence surrounding the football match between Ajax and Maccabi Tel Aviv. The judge stated that the sentences are harsher than usual for similar offenses, citing the severity of the incidents and their context.

Three cases involved public violence, while two concerned sharing information in a group chat that contributed to the violence. Sefa Ö.

received the highest sentence of six months, with pre-trial detention deducted. Rachid O. was sentenced to ten weeks, and Umutcan A. and Karavan S. received one-month sentences.

The 19-year-old Lucas D. was sentenced under juvenile law, resulting in a 100-hour community service order. The five men faced trial today for their role in the violence during the Ajax and Maccabi Tel Aviv match on November 7.

Two other suspects will appear in court later. After the match, Israelis were pursued, attacked, and mistreated by groups of rioters in various parts of the city.

The violence sparked national and international outrage and accusations of antisemitism. Previously, Nieuwsuur reconstructed the story of Mohammed B., a Syrian of Palestinian descent residing in the Netherlands since 2015, who admitted to Nieuwsuur that he chased Maccabi fans with a belt.

B. is not among those sentenced today.
