On an abandoned industrial site near a mid-sized Ukrainian city, a single car waits. It leads to a military headquarters overseeing the battle around Pokrovsk in the contested Donbas region of eastern Ukraine, a city on the brink of being captured.
Signs at the entrance warn, “phones in airplane mode,” underscoring their risk in this conflict. The new headquarters is positioned at a safer distance from Pokrovsk, anticipating further Russian advances.
Located beneath a former defense company, it utilizes a Soviet-era bunker. Inside, the commander of the 91st Anti-Tank Battalion, Nazari Kisjak, directs operations.
He issues commands and insults over the radio, referring to Russians with derogatory slang, emphasizing his leadership. Kisjak explains that Pokrovsk witnesses intense fighting, with the enemy deploying significant infantry forces.
Drone footage reveals Russian armored vehicles preparing to advance, attempting to encircle a village. Kisjak organizes countermeasures, asserting, “We must hold our ground to prevent further Russian progress.” Despite efforts, two villages southwest of Pokrovsk fall to Russian forces, tightening the encirclement.
