Climate activists from Extinction Rebellion (XR) have been arrested at Schiphol Airport for pouring a brown liquid on the floor in a hall beyond the customs check. The type of liquid remains unknown, but XR stated it symbolized the recent floods in the Valencia region of Spain last October.
A state of emergency is in effect at Schiphol until midnight due to the pre-announced protest. Approaching within 2 meters of the airport’s locks and fences is prohibited, as is carrying items that could disrupt public order, such as drones or glue.
XR claims the protest targets airline KLM’s frequent flyer program, accusing it of contributing to climate change and being partly responsible for its victims.
