The announcement by two influencers in Belgium to distribute free items led to chaos in Brussels. Approximately a thousand people gathered at the Atomium monument anticipating gifts, according to Belgian broadcaster VRT.
The influencers, identified as Hachemi and IbraTV, both have over a million followers on social media. They arrived in a bus, which was quickly surrounded by the crowd.
Police reported a tense atmosphere with fireworks being set off. As the bus eventually departed, the crowd pursued it, prompting police to deploy a water cannon.
The influencers shared videos on social media, filmed from the bus roof, showing the large crowd waiting and following the bus, as well as fireworks being launched from the roof. Spectators also shared videos on Snapchat of people running towards the bus and setting off fireworks.
