Ceasefire brings hope for Dutch resident in Gaza

Abed, a resident of Almere with Palestinian roots, has been monitoring the news closely like many Palestinians in Gaza, awaiting confirmation of a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. This truce has finally begun, allowing Abed to plan his return to his family in the Netherlands.

Over a year ago, the 33-year-old traveled to Gaza for a cousin’s wedding when conflict erupted on October 7, 2023, closing borders and leaving him stranded. Abed reports a sudden silence after recent bombings and remains hopeful about the ceasefire.

The truce officially commenced several hours late due to delays in the release of a list of Israeli hostages.
