Cash Machines Frequently Out of Service

Cash machines were frequently non-operational last year due to maintenance or malfunctions, an issue banks have struggled to control for nearly eighteen months. According to monthly reports from Geldmaat, the company responsible for these machines, December saw a significant rise in outages.

This was partly due to a call from the Dutch Banking Association to keep more cash at home and a message from NATO chief Rutte advising preparation for war, which caused a spike in cash demand. Additionally, Blokker’s bankruptcy affected availability, as nine of its stores with cash machines closed.
