The Dutch Cabinet has refrained from commenting on the circumstances leading to the fatal stabbing of an 11-year-old girl in Nieuwegein on October 21, 2023. Geert Wilders, leader of the PVV, had summoned Minister Van Weel of Justice and Security to parliament for questioning.
Minister Van Weel stated that due to the ongoing investigation, he cannot disclose much about the case. However, he confirmed that the 29-year-old suspect was known to police and justice authorities and had multiple convictions.
The suspect had been under probation since 2022 and had been involved with various care institutions. The Cabinet is investigating what actions were taken regarding reports about his behavior and “who knew what.”
