A book about the murder of 9-year-old Gino was withdrawn from sale after threats were made towards the author, as reported by the publisher and the book’s creator in a statement. The publisher, TIC, and journalist Bjorn Thimister decided to halt promotion and sales to prevent further escalation.
They extended their best wishes to Gino’s family during this difficult time. Gino was kidnapped and killed in 2022 by Donny M., who was sentenced to 25 years in prison and involuntary commitment at the end of last year.
Thimister, who closely followed the case, spent 18 months working on the book. Before publication, one of Gino’s sisters received two copies for review, according to L1 News.
Naomi, Gino’s sister, expressed the family’s dissatisfaction on Facebook, stating that the book was written without their involvement and felt like an infringement on their mourning process. The family also disputed certain portrayals in the book, leading to widespread social media sharing and anger towards Thimister.
The publisher and journalist claimed the book contained no falsehoods and described all involved with respect. Nonetheless, they decided to withdraw the book, expressing regret for any unintended offense.
