Betrayer in ‘Sonny Boy’ identified as Jewish student

After decades, the individual who betrayed the main characters from the book ‘Sonny Boy’ has been identified, reports De Telegraaf. It was allegedly 23-year-old Jewish student Carel Kaufman.

The book by Annejet van der Zijl, a bestseller and adapted into a film, narrates the true story of Dutch Rika van der Lans and Surinamese student Waldemar Nods, along with their son Waldemar (Waldy) Nods. Waldy’s parents were arrested for harboring Jewish refugees and were sent to German concentration camps.

His mother died there, and his father was shot by the SS after liberation. Waldy, nicknamed Sonny Boy, survived the war and passed away in 2015 at 85, never knowing who betrayed his parents.
