Safari park Beekse Bergen is set to modify the route of its car safari. Vehicles will no longer drive through the cheetah habitat but will be directed alongside it.
The park aims to prevent future incidents with cheetahs. In recent years, several visitors exited their vehicles in the cheetah area, leading to dangerous situations.
A park spokesperson told theme park site Looopings that visitors seem increasingly unaware of the risks posed by predators. Although signs along the safari route prohibit exiting vehicles, these warnings are often ignored.
Notably, in 2018, a French family left their car among the cheetahs, making international headlines. Similar incidents involved German visitors in 2019, and in 2022, a German student ignored multiple signs and entered the cheetah area, resulting in a bite on his arm from one of the animals.
Previously, Beekse Bergen had already prohibited visitors from driving through the lion habitat during the car safari, as reported by Omroep Brabant.
