Banks to Advise on Emergency Cash Reserves After New Year

After the New Year, banks will provide guidance on the recommended amount of cash individuals should keep at home for emergencies. This announcement was confirmed by a spokesperson from the NVB, following a report by news agency ANP.

This response comes after Defense Minister Brekelmans stated on the TV program WNL op Zondag that Dutch society should prepare for all possible war scenarios, highlighting the risk of disruptions in internet, electricity, and water supply, as well as payment systems. He advised keeping some cash at home for such situations.

The NVB mentioned that banks are already considering this issue, including the amount, denominations, and the potential need for additional bank accounts or credit cards. However, specific recommendations will be provided after consultations are completed, with plans to release a detailed advisory after the New Year.
