Attempted Break-In at German Military Barracks Near Cologne

An attempted break-in occurred at a German military barracks near Cologne. Burglars tried to access the water purification facility on January 2, as reported by the local prosecutor today.

A fence was knocked down and a door to the facility was damaged. According to the military, the intruders did not succeed in entering the facility.

An investigation is ongoing. This marks the third incident in recent months.

In August, the barracks were temporarily closed due to suspicions of deliberate water contamination. Holes were found in the fence, and water tests showed “abnormal values.” Five firefighters exhibited symptoms of poisoning.

However, further investigation did not confirm water poisoning. Last November, holes were once again found in the fence.

The identity of those behind the incidents remains unknown. Last summer, Berlin considered a possible Russian involvement.

The barracks house offices of the German military, and Ukrainian soldiers trained in Germany also depart from this location to return to Ukraine.
