One of the suspects detained in connection with the deadly explosion in The Hague’s Tarwekamp is reportedly the ex-boyfriend of the bridal shop owner affected, according to AD. The newspaper suggests that 33-year-old Moshtag B. might have orchestrated the attack.
Police sources told AD that the motive could be related to the ended relationship rather than criminal activity. The Public Prosecution Service and police declined to comment to NOS.
The explosion, which occurred a week and a half ago, resulted in six fatalities and partial collapse of a building. Funerals for the victims are being held this week.
Moshtag B. was arrested last Monday in Rotterdam, where he owns several businesses, including a gas station. In total, four men have been detained, aged 23, 29, and 33, from Rotterdam, Roosendaal, and Oosterhout.
Moshtag B. allegedly recruited the other three for the attack, intending to cause revenge and material damage, AD reports based on police sources. Experts claim the explosion’s magnitude was due to the perpetrators’ inexperience.
Two suspects were previously detained in Oosterhout with items like jerrycans and fireworks, but were released. Authorities are investigating potential links to the Hague incident.
A relative of the shop owner expressed surprise at the targeting of the store, noting the owner was not arrested and is also a victim.
