Amsterdam Launches Reporting Hotline for Disturbed Individuals

Residents and visitors in Amsterdam can now call a central hotline to report people displaying disturbed behavior. This initiative aims to improve the management of such cases, addressing reports that were previously overlooked.

René de Beukelaer, the chief public prosecutor in Amsterdam, noted that last year involved at least seven murder cases with individuals exhibiting unexplained behavior. Often, these individuals avoid care and wander the city.

Mayor Femke Halsema highlighted a shortage of proactive care, which could reach those in need of assistance, and the growing homelessness affecting those with severe psychiatric issues. Police, health services, mental health professionals, and housing corporations will collaborate at the city hall to address reports, signifying the priority the city gives to these issues.

Halsema assured that people will no longer be passed around without resolution.
