Amateur team captures Voyager 1 signal with old telescope

Volunteers operating the historic Dwingeloo radio telescope have successfully captured a signal from Voyager 1, a spacecraft almost 25 billion kilometers from Earth. This spacecraft, launched by NASA on September 5, 1977, is the farthest human-made object traveling in interstellar space.

The volunteers, led by Tammo Jan Dijkema from the Camras foundation, adapted their 68-year-old, 25-meter telescope to detect the signal. Although NASA typically uses the Deep Space Network for receiving such signals, the Dwingeloo team managed to pick it up after setting the correct frequency.

While the mission was celebrated as a success, the specific content of the Voyager 1 signal remains unclear.
