All 67 victims of D.C. crash recovered and mostly identified

The bodies of all 67 victims from last week’s plane crash near Washington D.C. have been recovered, and, except for one, all have been identified, authorities report. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is examining new data regarding the altitude at which the helicopter was flying.

This data suggests the military helicopter flew higher than the permitted 200 feet, with air traffic control’s radar indicating an altitude of 300 feet, according to the NTSB. This figure may have been rounded up.

Following the incident, there has been significant discussion about the helicopter’s altitude, originally estimated at approximately 295 feet. Investigators state that additional information is needed to verify the data.

The helicopter remains underwater, though the black box was found and retrieved this weekend.
