Albert Heijn recalls blueberries over hepatitis A concerns

Albert Heijn has immediately removed its house-brand frozen blueberries from shelves due to potential hepatitis A contamination, according to the supermarket. The recall affects one-kilogram packages of “AH Zakje met blauwe bessen” with an expiration date of April 14, 2026, or earlier.

Customers are “urgently” advised not to consume these blueberries and to return them for a refund. Albert Heijn warns that consuming the berries could cause health issues and recommends visiting a doctor if symptoms appear.

The supermarket chain apologizes for the inconvenience, but the cause of the potential contamination is still unknown. Hepatitis A can lead to liver inflammation, causing yellowing of the skin and eyes.

While generally mild in young children, adults may experience severe fatigue for up to six months.
