In the Walloon village of Goegnies-Chaussée, a 7-year-old boy was fatally attacked by sled dogs from his mother’s kennel, according to Belgian media reports. The Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Mons region confirmed the boy’s death but did not comment on the circumstances.
According to the Walloon news site RTBF, the boy was with his mother feeding dogs in the family stable near the French border when, for unknown reasons, five of the dogs attacked him. The mother managed to pull him away and provide first aid, but emergency services could not save the boy’s life.
The dogs were malamutes, originally from Alaska, known to be affectionate and friendly towards children but requiring consistent training and socialization. The police and Public Prosecutor’s Office have offered psychological support to the bereaved family and are continuing their investigation.
