15-year-old in coma after bus accident in Zwartewaal

A passenger from the regional bus that collided with a car near Zwartewaal is in intensive care. The 15-year-old student is in a medically induced coma, as reported by the principal of Maerlant College in Brielle to the regional broadcaster Rijnmond.

The accident happened yesterday afternoon on the provincial road N218. The bus ended up in a ditch after the collision.

Twenty people were on the bus, including three students from the school. Ten were injured, and four were taken to the hospital, including the 15-year-old student.

Rijnmond reports that she was found half an hour later by emergency services and required resuscitation. It is unclear why she was not found sooner.

The principal informed parents of the incident last night. Additional support has been provided to students at the school, and a discussion took place in the injured student’s class.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation, with no further details available at this time.
